INTRODUCTION

The West Coast Rottweiler Club of Western Australia (Inc) is the official State Breed Club, affiliated with the National Rottweiler Council (Australia), the Canine Association of Western Australia (CAWA) and through CAWA with the Australian National Kennel Council.

The club was first formed in 1984 by Keith and Jo Peckham, Rob and Chris Axten and Peter Romney. It was known as The Rottweiler Club of WA.  The club held its inaugural show in 1989 and in 1991 the club was Incorporated and its name changed to the West Coast Rottweiler Club Inc. The name was again changed a few years later to The West Coast Rottweiler Club of Western Australia Inc. as it is today.

The club’s Patroness is Mrs. Clara Hurley of Powderhorns Rottweilers in the US. Mrs. Hurley has donated the Perpetual Trophy for Best Exhibit in Show, which is presented at the club’s Championship Show each year. An imported Rottweiler medallion is also awarded for permanent possession by the winner each year.

This perpetual trophy is awarded permanently to a three times winner, not necessarily with the same dog or at consecutive shows and a new one takes its place. The trophy will remain in the custody of the WCRC of WA and it will be at the clubs discretion if the trophy is to go home with the winner.

A great deal of the club's efforts are directed towards the improvement of the Rottweiler, particularly in respect of the elimination of hereditary diseases.
